Who we are

Omega test and balance was established in 2004 to work in conjunction with the mechanical engineering team or owner representative and to assist the installing contractors with proper installation of the mechanical HVAC systems. We work in association with the designing architect and engineer to ensure mechanical efficiency for low maintenance and an economical and energy efficient building for the owner. The employees of Omega have successfully completed a wide range of projects for public and private clientele throughout the Southwest. We recognize the need to provide responsible energy efficient systems using our professional expertise. We pride ourselves on our high level of responsiveness and meeting deadlines. Omega recognizes that each team member’s highest priority must be the fulfillment of team goals, guided independence to those possessing specialized skills and encourage all team members to collaborate freely and communicate openly among themselves. Avoiding communication breakdowns ensures that a healthy team is one in which every team member possesses all pertinent information. We strive to develop this team concept internally so that it will positively affect the external teams. Our clients are important to us. We strive to assure the building owner gets many years of service from the HVAC and control systems. We realize the value of test and balance services as a valuable part of all projects, through construction and to owner occupancy. It is imperative that the installed equipment be tested and balanced to meet its design intent. Our testing and balancing technicians are equipped with full service measuring equipment for water and airflow to test system efficiencies both before and after design and construction. We review project documents and proper operation of the equipment, and verify calibration of controls to insure proper operation. We practice and follow the balancing guidelines set by the national environmental balancing bureau procedures for balancing and ASHRAE HVAC Applications, chapter 37 for test and balance. Our forms are similar to NEBB format, informative and easy to follow. In addition to new facilities, we specialize in testing existing buildings, either to improve efficiency, to correct problems, or in anticipation of renovations. As we evaluate specific areas of a building, we take measurements on existing equipment to determine how it is operating with respect to the original design intent and future use. Omega test and balance is supervised by a certified NEBB test and balance engineer. Each of our technicians holds a certification in safety from OSHA and has attended classes given by the Southwest Safety Training Association. Omega is a NEBB certified company, currently in good standing.

Who’s in charge

The Co-Owner and Accounting Manager is Sherry Schoffstall. She is the accounting Manager of Omega Test & Balance, L.L.C. and is involved in the operations management and in the managerial decision making of Omega Test & Balance, L.L.C. As Accounting Manager, she administers general and active management of the business affairs of this company’s business and directs powers of supervision over those duties performed by the other managers, officers, employees, agents, and representatives of this company.

Professional Experience: Sherry founded Outsource Works in 1997 which is a small business support service and is responsible for all accounting functions for multiple clients of both large and small businesses wishing to incorporate outsourcing, including write-up, bank reconciliations, payroll records, sales tax reports, financial statements, and tax returns. Sherry has strong verbal and written communication skills for heavy client contact. She also possesses knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.Sherry has experienced thirty years of work history as a bookkeeper, office manager, administrator, and job cost accountant at various firms in a variety of fields including but not limited to; a mechanical contractor and an HVAC company. Sherry has worked as a team member, managed up to 50 employees, performed administrative duties, worked with project managers, processed work in progress reports, and prepared timely accounting information. Her educational training in accounting and business along with her diverse experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, taxes, and financial statements qualify her as accounting manager with Omega Test & Balance, L.L.C.

The Co-Owner and General Manager is Chuck Schoffstall. He is the managing supervisor. Chuck is a managing member of Omega test & Balance. During the testing and balancing phase of a project, He is responsible for providing project supervision, project scheduling and the review and certification of reports, preparation of fee proposals, job layout, billings, and scheduling of staff. He reviews and confirms accurate installation of the mechanical and control system according to the design intent. His project management approach is to effectively lead the team to a successful project in alliance with other contractors. Chuck serves as the company’s training associate for all staff members for industry knowledge.

Professional Experience: Chuck has over 18 years experience working with mechanical systems. For approximately 10 years with Energy Systems Design and 7 years, he served as a project manager for J.B. Rodgers Mechanical and was primarily responsible for bidding new jobs, layout, scheduling and organizing staff hours, processing of balance reports, billings and job costing, field performance and customer relations. There and other companies, he created and developed a test and balance division and continued to manage, operate, and grow that segment to become a successful air balance division.

Project Teams: Our TAB technicians are knowledgeable in the HVAC industry and multiple energy management systems. We have four project managers that are trained in industry standards. They work to assist in project deficiencies and problem solving for their assigned projects and crew. We have field technicians that perform all work. We have a full office staff to make and receive calls, type reports, support the field in all business needs and keep Omega operating efficiently and problem free.

What we do

Test and balance Ø We provide test and balance services to existing buildings, either to improve efficiency, to correct problems, or in anticipation of renovations. As we evaluate specific areas of a building, we take measurements on existing equipment to determine how it is operating with respect to the original design intent. This gives us insight as to what, if any, revisions are necessary. We will also test the existing equipment to determine which equipment may be reused and what equipment requires replacement.

CommissioningØ Omega can provide commissioning services with the objective of assuring that the mechanical systems have been installed and are performing in accordance with the design and contract documents along with the client’s requirements. Omega will create a project-specific plan to comply with the project documents and requirements. We will lead a coordinated commissioning process and provide complete documentation of all required activities and results. We have commissioned projects for hospitals, high-rise buildings, schools and jails.

The commissioning specifics will include; Ø Review documentation of design criteria, equipment and system performance objectives.Ø Equipment installation and operational checklists and verification.Ø Provide disciplinary task list and coordination activities.Ø Designate an individual from each contracting company for systems performance testing.Ø Witness equipment/system start-up procedures.Ø Provide project multiphase testing procedures.Ø Witness equipment performance verification procedures.Ø Ensure owner operator training procedures.Ø Provide a commissioning report of task and final results.Ø Commissioning will follow the SMACNA level two agenda.

Fire Alarm SystemsØ We have completed multiple testing on fire alarm systems. Tests have included smoke detectors, fire damper verification and shutdown and stairwell pressure testing. Projects range from small tenant improvements to high-rise buildings, hospitals and schools.

Where we’ve been

In our First year, our staff has completed test and balance services on more than 330 projects. Facilities include industrial buildings, semiconductor and manufacturing plants, clean-rooms, municipal facilities, commercial office buildings, banks, and hospitals as well as residential structures for both water and air systems. A major portion of our test and balance work is ongoing maintenance for clients with numerous plants throughout the state of Arizona.

Our projects have included but are not limited to;

Testing of air and hydronic distribution systems, calibration of thermostats, duct heater and other controls; energy surveys, temperature and humidity monitoring, sound testing; startup and maintenance on mechanical systems, engineering audits, engineering surveys, evaluation of HVAC systems, commissioning and as built drawings.
